Ocean Freight
The higher of the 2 values, weight or volume, is multiplied by the
weight rate.
To calculate the Volume/Measure in cubic feet (ft.3),
multiply Width by Breadth by Height (in inches) and divide by 1728.
Divide the result by 35.315 for m3.
Rates are quoted by Weight or Measure,
eg. $180.00 W/M. This means the rate is applied per ton or 2,000-lb.
(Weight) or 40 ft.3 / 1.13m3 (Measure), which
ever is greater.
For example, freight cost on a cargo
of TILES weighing 8,000-lb or 4 tons and measuring 64 cu. ft./1.81
m3 would be calculated as follows.
8,000 lb ÷ 2,000 = 4 tons
(W)
64 cu. ft ÷ 40 = 1.6 (M),
OR
1.81 m3 ÷ 1.13
= 1.6 m3
You would use the higher factor of
4 and multiply it by the freight rate, $180.00 to derive at the
cost of $720.00.
To this freight cost, port and other
handling charges, documentation fees and duties/taxes, will have
to be added. Please contact us for a quotation.
The above is a basic guide only,as
there are variations between UK/Europe and USA standards.
